Cougars sing the blues...

Charlton Rovers Blues (1) v (5) LRFC Cougars

This was as dominant an LRFC Cougars performance as there ever has
been. With a squad stripped to the bare bones the starting line up had
an unfamiliar look about it with George in goal, Freddie dropping into
centre back alongside Lewis. Finn starting wide right, Tom wide left.
The full backs were Sam and Adam, the midfield pairing Ben and Ryan.
Up front Jorge with Tommy just behind. Jacob started on the bench
because he was tired.

From the off the Cougars dominated possession and were able to find
team mates in space with ease. There were early half chances that
couldn't be taken. It was a surprise when the opening goal came
against the run of play with Blues opening the scoring. A long ball
through the middle that the defence allowed to bounce and then failed
to cover. 1-0.

The Cougars didn't panic and kept playing their football. Finn and Tom
were getting on the ball more, Tom driving at the defence and Finn
full of tricks to buy space then using the ball intelligently. Finn
was also challenging and winning headers which was excellent to see.
Tommy and Jorge were always a threat and are developing quite an
understanding.

The equalising goal came from Tom, the ball played into the inside
left channel he lofted it, left footed, over the keeper. 1-1.

After this goal the result was rarely in doubt. The Cougars keeping
possession and the Reds just not able to cope with the movement and
passing. Sam, in particular had an excellent first half using the
space in front of him to support the attack and communicating with his
team mates. Ben was also talking while on the pitch and said a few
words at half time too.....the team ends more of this character.

The cougars scored next through Jacob, on as substitute, a corner was
headed goal wards by Sam.chis effort hit the cross bar with Jacob on
hand to finish from close range. 2-1 and how it would be at half time.

There were moments in this first half where the Cougars were putting
30 passes together with Blues chasing shadows.

Second half followed the same pattern of play. The cougars dominating
possession and but for profligacy in front of goal could have scored a
dozen. The third goal came from Jacob, Jorge then scored a fine
individual effort driving in from the touch line to beat the keeper.

The game would end 5-1 and it is no exaggeration to say that the
cougars enjoyed around 80% of the possession. 5-1 does not tell the
full story.

MotM was Ben for a solid and motivating performance. Always neat in
possession but talking to drive the team on. This was particularly
hard today though as every Cougar had a very good game and did what
they needed too. In May ways this had the atmosphere of a training
game. Blues were forced back by the Cougars play and limited to a
couple of attacks. When they did hit the target George was on hand to
make the save.

An excellent professional performance.
